One of my favorite things to do is PLAN! I love planning events for my friends and family. On Holy Saturday, last week, I planned a brunch for my family so we can have a fun day during quarantine! Although we are stuck at home, I am glad we have this quality time together. I even made a menu and invitation, and slid it under everyones door to invite them cordially!
Brunch consisted of :
Pancakes, French Toast, Eggs Benedict, bacon, ham and fruit!
We all had a great time and enjoyed our time together- just one way we make quarantine fun in my home!
Chloe Ting, a youtuber and instagram model who recently became insanely popular. Chloe posts workout programs and videos that people can do at home without any equipment. These have become increasingly popular during the national stay at home order, being that gyms are closed. I am on day 7 of Chloe’s 2 week program. At the end of the program, you are supposed to have abs. While I know this is impossible, I decided to give it. a try.
I actually already have great results! My core is definitely stronger! I feel great, and have lost an inch off my waist. I am going to keep up with these workouts, and next up try her summer shred program!!
On February 3rd, 2020, I made a blog posts and said, “That being said, the coronavirus is definitely a threat, but it seems to be very much blown out of proportion by the United States”… I clearly jinxed us!!! Honestly though, since then the world has changed so much, in only 3 months. I can’t believe I said that and later had the virus. It just seems funny to me how back in February we would have never thought we would be quarantined. Weird how so much can change…
The coronavirus has affected so much for people across the world. One of which, is sports. On March 12th, the world stopped when the president announced sports were going to be post-poned indefinitely. For me, I am not a huge sports fan, but I grew up in a sports family. My dad is a die hard Yankee fan, and also follows football, basketball, hockey and soccer. That being said, he was devastated knowing sports would not be starting. This is just another thing we have taken for granted; sports are a source of happiness and pass-time for millions of people all over the world, and the world misses sports!!
On day 40 of quarantine I was so bored that I became a pangolin. Some of you may know me as an anteater with scales. In fact, I am the only type of animal that is covered head to toe in scales.. Actually the same type that humans have in their fingernails. I live in Asia so the coronavirus pandemic is crazy, but luckily my species is not able to be infected by this nasty virus. When I woke up from my slumber in the bushes I headed over to the largest tree in my village and began using my claws to pull the bark off, which helps me find insect prey. I honestly would prefer to be a pangolin during quarantine because they are allowed to go out and they also aren’t able to contract the virus. It is sad that a literal anteater has a better life than me right now.
Pictured here is me doing what I do best; eating ants.
I chose to review the song “It’s Not Over Yet,” by KING because I feel like most of us can very much relate to it. New York has been under state mandated social distancing orders… AKA quarantine for over a month now, and we just found out that it will remain until at least May 15th. This has been a rough time for everyone, especially those who are sick and those who have lost their jobs due to covid-19. This song relates directly with these quarantine orders in the title. Unfortunately it is not over yet and is not predicted to be over any time soon. Some even say this could go on until 2021. The lyrics also resonate with how we should be feeling during this time, “Keep on fighting, Out of the dark”. New Yorkers are strong and we can get through this tough time, along with the rest of the nation. Although these times are hard, we should be reflecting upon the good things; we have food and shelter and that makes us pretty lucky. It’s not over yet!!!!
The scene I chose to review is from the 1958 movie, “The Blob”. This sci-fi classic follows two teenagers as they try to protect their hometown from a gelatinous alien life form that engulfs everything it touches, in other words, the blob. I decided to zone in on the scene at the movies.
The scene takes place in a packed movie theater. We see the perspective of a crowded room of people, the movie on screen and the man in the control room of the theater. Suddenly, the blob comes in through the air conditioning vents, attacking the man in the control room. While this scene may seem incredibly basic, there are many elements to it that make it interesting and that is what I will be focusing on in this scene review.
The first aspect that makes the scene interesting is the sound. Watch the scene once with sound and once without sound. It is clear that the sound is what makes the scene so suspenseful and it even adds a scare factor to an otherwise bland scene. The audio playing from the movie in this scene is creepy laughter. In the beginning of the scene you only hear the movie’s audio faintly in the background, but as the scene progresses and the blob comes out from the vent the creepy laughing gets not only louder, but also faster. This audio added a whole level to the scene and made it incredibly suspenseful.
The reactions of the movie theater audience and the man in the control room also add to the scene in a good way. I find it interesting how the audience is completely unaware of what is happening behind the scenes, until their movie turns off. Before that they are completely blank faced just simply watching their movie. In addition, the man in the control room is also completely unaware of the situation. He was also blank faced, simply reading a book in peace when the blob came up to attack him. I also found it interesting that the movie’s visuals were people who seemed incredibly happy, almost too happy and in a creepy way. This also adds to the idea that nobody knew what was coming when the blob invaded.
It is interesting how audio and actors’ reactions can make or break a scene. Without the creepy audio to build suspense and the actors to add unawareness, this scene would have been overall unsuccessful. However, with these added elements, the viewer feels suspense, almost as if they want to put themselves in the movie and tell the actors to run!
The 2018 version of “A Star is Born,” is the type of movie that hooks it’s viewers up until the final scene. The original “A Star Is Born” is a 1976 American musical romantic drama film starring Barbra Streisand and Kris Kristofferson. Today I watched the newest version of this film starring Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper. The movie is about a woman’s rise to stardom and a rock star’s journey as he loses the spotlight due to drug and alcohol abuse. The movie starts with Lady Gaga’s character Ally performing in a small bar, where Jack Maine, international rockstar comes in for a drink. He is blown away by her talent, but there’s something even deeper in the way that he connects with her voice. Not long after, Ally is getting ready to leave with Maine to get another drink, and he plays one of his own songs for the club owner. Within the same night, the two of them fall in love. It seems to be love at first sight; but you realize they are in love with each other’s talent above anything else. This story has been told several times before since the 70’s, but Cooper and Gaga find a way to make this feel fresh and new. Jack takes Ally on tour with him just days after their first encounter. They sang together and spent nights together. Above their love, however, Ally begins to realize his struggle with drugs and alcohol, but continues to love him. He brought her on stage at one of his concerts and had her sing, where she became an instant superstar. She began to sing at all his concerts with him. As time goes on, Ally becomes an international pop star and Jack begins losing himself to drugs and alcohol. One of the worst scenes is where Ally is accepting her grammy award and her now husband Jack was so drunk and high on stage he peed his pants and embarrassed her on national TV. I won’t go into all the details of this movie, but I will say it is an emotional, heartbreaking story of two people’s struggles in a relationship and in the world of stardom. I recommend this movie to anyone who has a heart basically. I cannot stress how amazing and unexpected it is. You are sure to be crying. Above anything, you should watch this movie to see the amazing chemistry Gaga and Cooper have together, seemingly on and off stage. Lastly, Lady Gaga won numerous awards for her acting and songwriting in this movie. The ending is unexpected and is sure to pull at your heart strings.
If you want to see anything, watch this video of Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper from the Oscars to see how amazing they are together… who else didn’t know that Bradley could sing, yet he is amazing!!
I had a dream I got a bad guy Not what you’d think And if I’m being honestIt might’ve been a tough guy To anyone who might care Thought I could fly So I stepped off the golden, so cynical Nobody cried, no bad guy even noticed Nobody even noticed, bruises on both my knees I saw them standing right there
I admire Hawkings for challenging himself and completely changing his life to be random. But, I know this is something I would never be able to do… I am the ultimate planner. I plan everything from big events to just what I will do in a single day. I keep planners and logs on my computer to make sure I don’t stray away from my planned schedule. When there’s not a set schedule in place it makes me nervous. Maybe some day in the future I can learn to be more spontaneous and random, but as of now, especially being a student, keeping track of my time is the best option for me.
